A new deal for Brisbane: PARKS FOR PEOPLE

Premier David Crisafulli’s 100 day review into Olympic infrastructure has been released, and the decision has been made to build a new Olympic stadium for Brisbane at Victoria Park.

There are mixed feelings about this in our community, but we all have a shared concern around the consistent reduction of useable parks and green space in Brisbane.

When residents have asked for new parks in our suburbs, the response from the Lord Mayor has been that the Brisbane City Council’s focus is on restoring Victoria Park.

Constructing a new stadium at Victoria Park equals about a ten percent reduction in that parkland, which is around the size of 12 football fields.

It's essential that this loss of green space is offset by investing in parkland and critical green space throughout Brisbane's suburbs.

The World Health Organisation recommends that people should be able to reach a park within a 5 minute walk. Brisbane is moving away from this target.

The 2032 Olympics offers a unique opportunity to reshape Brisbane into an even better version of the city we all love. There has never been a better time to invest in our local communities. I want to make sure we seize this opportunity to leave a positive legacy for our suburbs.

Join me in calling on the Lord Mayor and Premier to invest in additional parkland and and green corridors for Brisbane.

Green sections are classified as park locations by Brisbane City Council.
